California Inmate Locator

Just got the call and don’t know where they are? Pick the county where the arrest happened. We’ll show you the official inmate search, the main jail, and what to do next.

I searched and they’re not showing up yet. Why?

Booking takes time. In most California counties, it’s a few hours between arrest and the moment someone appears in the official inmate search. If they were just arrested, check back in 2–4 hours. If it’s been longer than that, they may have been transferred between facilities — call us and we’ll help locate them.

I don’t know which county to pick.

Start with the city where the arrest happened. If it was in any city in Los Angeles County, pick Los Angeles County. If you’re not sure, call our 24-hour line at 800.590.7321 — we know which facility serves each city across California.

What should I do once I find them?

Write down their full legal name, date of birth, booking number, the facility, and the charges if listed. Then call us. We’ll confirm the bail amount and walk you through the bond. Read our first-hour after arrest guide for the full step-by-step.

Why does the locator say “no bail” or show a hold?

Some charges are marked “no bail” until a judge sets one at arraignment, usually within 48 hours. Holds (police, parole, probation, or immigration) can also prevent release even after bail is posted. See our guide to bail and probation/parole holds for what each means.
