How Bail Works in Newport Beach
Bail is set from the Orange County Uniform Bail Schedule (2026) based on the most serious charge. Bail is not added up across counts. Unlike Los Angeles County, Orange County still attaches a dollar amount to most bookable offenses. A judge can change that amount at arraignment. With a bail bond, you pay a premium of 10% of the bail (8% if you qualify) instead of the full amount. For the complete county process, see our Orange County jail bail guide.
Release time expectations
- NBPD jail: often within a few hours of the bond being posted at the front desk
- IRC in Santa Ana: the Sheriff’s Department reports an average of about 4 hours after bail is posted, typically 2–6 hours
